Sports Massage Central Coast

You don’t have to be an elite athlete to benefit from a Sports Massage on the Central Coast. It is generally geared towards professional athletes and weekend warriors alike. A general deep tissue massage it is not. Depending on the goals of the individual will dictate what actual treatment they receive.
Sports massages can be divided into three categories: Pre-event massage, Post-event massage and Maintenance massage. I am a specialist in this type of work as they can help you incorporate massage into your training or exercise workout regime!

PRE-EVENT MASSAGE

A Pre-event massage is generally performed one to two days before an event (race, game, competition, etc.). The goal is to increase blood flow, warm and relax the muscles as well as stimulate circulation. This will increase the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the muscles, as well as mentally stimulate the athlete. The massage will usually consist of quick, pumping strokes. However, if the athlete is nervous or anxious, then it may be beneficial to use therapeutic strokes to have more of a calming effect.

POST-EVENT MASSAGE

Post-event massage, commonly known as a ‘flush’, is usually performed one to two days after an event. To aid the recovery process, the focus is to remove waste and fluids from overused areas. No deep tissue work is done during this time. Because muscles will suffer microtrauma from sustained exercise or contact sports, the degrees of trauma will vary between individuals. Because of this, the massage is always the same for everyone aiming only to flush the muscles using lighter pressure.

MAINTENANCE WORK

Maintenance massage work includes regular (weekly, fortnightly, monthly) massage sessions for maintenance, addressing any injuries or imbalances through massage, stretching and strengthening.
